I have some concerns about the reliability of the following HIV test ( it turned out to be NON REACTIVE):
4th generation HIV 1/2 Ag/Ab by chemilumiescence.
I took it at a private lab, with blood collection, 60 after the risky situation; such event was vaginal intercourse ( I am a man) with condom, nevertheless I didn't know the status of the condom (If it was out of date or weak) but it didn't feel as breaking (never experienced a breaking condom so I didn't know the feeling).
Also, I would like to know if isotrerinoin ( I am taking it for my acne) can affect such test.
Can You, please, tell me how long is window period for HIV subtype CRF 01 ae virus that is predominant in some parts of Asia? I had all symptoms of HIV that can exist, but my test come negative after 110 days. Result was 0.5 negative. Test that I have done was CMIA. I found some informations on the net that some of subtypes of HIV have longer window period than usual three months. Please give me some answer.
Thanks a lot.
I'm a 28 male who lives in a low risk HIV area.
About a year ago I had a HIV test done (I needed it for surgery) and I was told that the test result was "inconclusive". I didn't know much about HIV and HIV testing at the time and obviously I was worried. After asking a lot of questions the doctor told me that the administered test (ELISA) was reactive to the HIV antibodies and that we needed to do more tests to confirm the result. We took 2 more blood samples and ran 2 more tests (Western Blot and PCR). Fortunately both tests came back negative (no bands present and no proviral DNA was detected) which resulted in a HIV negative status.
One week ago I had another ELISA done along with standard STD tests (STD tests came back negative). This time the result also came back as "reactive" and we had to take more blood samples for Western Blot and PCR (still waiting for the results).
During the year between the tests I only had sex (vaginal, some of it unprotected) with one woman who was my girlfriend at the time and who as far as I know is HIV negative. Our last sexual encounter was 2 months ago.
Is it unheard-of for someone to be "reactive" to 2 separate ELISA tests 2 year apart? If so, and my results comeback again negative (fingers crossed) then what are my options for future testing? As you may imagine this is very stressful for me and for if some reason ELISA is sensitive to my blood are there any other tests that can be used for routine screenings?
Hello there, I had a protected sex with two women 3 times ( I used 3 condoms two with one women and one with the other) in the same day in exchange of money I wore condom all the time I even checked the used condoms if there were no leak ( and there weren`t any thanks to god ) Now I am affraid if I got HIV, I did two test one after 15 days and the other after 18 the test was p24 Antigen; HIV Antigen/Antibody Combination on both tests I got Nonreactive, dose that mean I don`t have HIV beacuse I`ve read that Antigen is detectable after 10 to 16 day on average.
the labe says that after 21 days this type of test reusl is conclusive. the second test I did becuase I had a sore throat and I thought that was a symtoms.
when is the actual windo period of this test?
Hi dear Sir/Mamm,
Please help me solve the mysterious symptoms I've been going through for almost a month. I first started to feel gum hurting and a dry mouth on the 27th of May, the next day I started to have thrush on my tongue. I was so scared that this could be an indication of HIV infection. Since I've given oral sex to the same guy two and a half years, and also nine months ago. I went to my routine physical exam on the 28th, did a complete check on most body parts, CTs, x-rays and Blood tests all came out normal.
I went to a clinic to seek help for the thrush on May 31. The doctor examined my mouth and gave me a throat culture test which was NEGATIVE. He then expressed concerns on my immune system, suggesting me to take an HIV + STDs test, which I did. He also asked about my white blood cell levels, which I know is normal from the physical exam I took a few days before.
The next few days waiting for the results were like hell to me. My stomach started to make sounds the night I went back from the clinic, and I had diarrhea for a day after that. Also felt fatigue sometimes and my dry mouth and oral thrush keeps getting worse, the anti-fungal medicine my doctor prescribed didn't help at all.
On June 3rd, I finally got my test results, everything came back NEGATIVE. But I didn't feel relieved because I'm still having the oral thrush, and it seemed have spread to my throat since I feel a bit pain when swallowing food.
I went to the clinic again on June 5th in search for the cause of my persisting thrush, and why I keep developing symptoms that are very close to hiv infection. The doctor reassured me that my previous test results are accurate since it was a 4th GEN AT/AG test. But I was still concerned since they didn't do the test in house; they drew my blood and sent the samples to a lab for the test. I worried that the results could've been wrong due to lab errors or mistakes made through this process. The doctor said I can get a rapid finger prick test on-site to give myself a peace of mind. I did, and the result is also NEGATIVE. The doctor then concluded that the thrush might be a result of antibiotics I took for a week after my wisdom teeth removal on May 14th.
Now more than a week after that, my thrush started to fade, but there still is quite a bit of thrush at the end of my tongue. I started to find rashes on my chest, my back and on my arms. Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat and a weird brownish red mark on my right arm. I experienced some mild fever last night and today, and the sore throat continues to bother me. My stomach still makes noises, I tend to get marks on my skin easily and sometimes my muscles sours for no reason.
I know I probably seem really paranoid, but is there a chance that I was at the late stage of an infection so the test couldn't find any antibodies? (I asked this since I read thrush is a symptom mostly occurring on late-stage patients.)
Or could it be some kind of new string of virus that the tests couldn't detect? And how likely could the clinic have messed up my test results?
Is it necessary for me to get tested again using methods that look for the virus directly? Like RNA or viral load tests? Is it necessary to get a CD4/CD8 count too to rule out any other immune system diseases?
I'd be really grateful if you could answer my concerns since they've been bothering me so much!!
i had an exposure with a CSW on april 7. she sucked my nipples and gave me a blowjob. It was protected oral sex and I was wearing condom throughout. I did not have any vaginal or anal sex with the girl. She gave me an unprotected handjob. Later She lied naked with me for half an hour and later I just chatted with her about her life, why she became a sex worker and if anyone in her family knew about what she did. I felt really bad after her hearing her story and felt I was exploiting someone and just asked her to go without having even any protected penetrative sex.
I dont know her HIV status but she insisted on using condoms for oral sex even though I was willing to go for oral without condom, saying she needed to protect herself. She also refused anal sex, saying she never has it and only has vaginal sex with a condom and told me she never had sex without a condom with any customer of hers. She also told me she does not let anyone ejaculate on her body as she is scared of diseases and STD. Now i dont believe any of this as such since at the end she is CSW. I am assuming her to be hiv positive.
After she went I freaked out the next day that I may have caught HIV because of her sucking my nipples if she had any bleeding gums or mouth ulcer. I checked my nipples and did not notice any sign of injury or mark but got very scared and started testing for hiv.I did not notice any blood coming form her mouth and did not have any cut or injury before she sucked my nipples. After the event i checked my nipples repeatedly but could not find any injury or small cut. I am very scared.
please refer to my test results below:-
risk date- april 7,2016
hiv-1 rna QUANTITATIVE pcr on april 18- negative, target not detected (10 days after exposure)
hiv 1/2 & p24 antigen combo test on may 6- index value- 0.07 negative(28 days after exposure)
hiv-2 pcr detection on may 14- negative, target not detected(37 days after exposure)
hiv 1/2 & p24 antigen combo test on may 21- index value- 0.11 target not detected(44 days after exposure)
hiv-1 rna QUALITATIVE PCR on may 24- negative, target not detected(46 days after exposure)
now can i consider myself 100% negative for both hiv-1 and hiv-2 and move on with my life or do i need a confirmation with an antibody testing at 90 day mark? is there a possibility that all my pcr and hiv 1/2 and p24 antigen combo test(CMIA) are false allnegatives? Is the hiv 1/2 & p24 combo test the same as the hiv duo test? I have read that both the duo and pcr test are considered conclusive by 4-6 weeks by hiv specialists... i know u may say that i dont really need testing but please help.
I've had protected sex on 1st May 2016.
1.On the 21th day from exposure, i took the following tests-Hiv antibody/antigen,vdrl,Hepatitis B and C test.All negative.
2.On the 33rd day from exposure ,I've taken HIV 1proviral dna test and 4th generation HIV antibody and P24 antigen test. All negative.Could you please say if the results are conclusive.
I had a risk behavior so I want to know as much as possible i can.
6-7 Days after the relation, i went to MD and he told me that i have to wait to take hiv test, but in case i couldnt i should take P24 antigen test + VIH1+2 test.
I dont know wich generation the test was, bur the results are:
VIH 1 + 2 NEGATIVE
Technic: Antingen-Antibody reaction
Ag. P 24 NEGATIVE
With this information: is it possible to know wich generation of test the lab performed?
Ag.P 24 is reliable?
I understand that i have to wait to have another test. but with those a made mean something? or do not at all.
I had protected anal sex (bottom) and unprotected oral sex, I tested 27 days after and the results came back negative. Shld I still be worried or is it almost 100% safe that I am not HIV+?
Hi. 24 days ago I received oral and anilingus. I know the risk is negligible for these, but the thing is I had a cut around my anus where he was giving. I don't know why I'm stressing this so much. Is 24 days too soon to get accurate results from a 4th generation test? Also, are you guys related to CDC in terms of information about everything with risks and such?
