Yesterday my ankle was pricked by a needle on the street - it didn't bleed. The emergency ward at St. Paul's gave me the 3 PEP medications to take for the first 5 days, telling me I'd feel sick and my liver and kidneys could be affected. I've got 2 hours to decide whether or not to take them (in the first 24 hours). Aids Vancouver would have helped with my decision, but they're closed today. I'm quite healthy and don't want to be sick for the next 5 days or ruin my liver or kidneys, but don't know what the chances are for HIV or how long it would take for it to manifest. I need help to make this decision.
I bruise my leg against someone's leg on a football match, and I had scratches on it (no bleeding) please am asking, assuming the other person also had scratches as a result of the the bruise am I at risk of hiv?
Last year I went to do a facial to remove black heads.
The tool used was a comedone extractor. One end is a loop and the other end is a lancet.
It looks something like in this link:
I had a lot of acne and blackheads at that time.
I don't remember if the lancet was used on me. If I remember, I only remember the loop being used on me.
However, I shouldn't make assumptions.
I asked the staff how they cleaned the equipment and they said that they only drenched it in rubbing alcohol.
They said that they boiled it, but another staff said that they only drenched the lancet and the loop with alcohol (asked a few weeks after).
After that they clean it with tissue.
I had a lot of acne at that time so there was bleeding. I remember them using their gloved fingers to pop the pimples. I don't know if a lancet was used to pierce
This happened in Hong Kong so US sterilization rules don't apply here. The people that did the procedure on me didn't speak English so I had trouble communicating with them. I think they didn't boil the comedone extractor tool as shown in the picture.
This post says that the risk is negligible: http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/blackhead-remover-risky-0
Is it negligible in my case? Do I have to get tested? I've been really bothered by this event. Please do answer.
My parents told me that I'm going to be fine, but I keep worrying about the situation.
This link as well: https://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV---Prevention/Any-Risk/show/2028666
I've called the HIV helpline in Hong Kong:
and they said that it only involves very little blood and I don't need to get tested.
(1) Profuse bleeding needs to occur, like in a war when someone gets wounded. She said a facial wouldn't have profuse bleeding. I further searched and
i compared what happened to me with getting a tattoo. A facial would have significantly less blood exposure than a tattoo. Am I right?
(2) The needle was not hollow so the risk is lower. Lancet pricks are apparently negligible to no risk. I think there was no customer before me for at least 30 minutes
to an hour. Does this mean that the risk from a facial would be negligible to zero? There was a lancet and a loop on the other end. Pimples were popped by
The local free testing services won't let me get tested because they said that the scenario I explained was no in the list of risky activities.
But there was bleeding and a lancet. My mind keeps comparing it to the risk of tattoos because the skin is repeatedly stabbed. I understand modern tattoos have a
reservoir (hollow) so is high risk but other tattoos needles are not hollow if I'm not mistaken.
Do I have to get tested?
Should I worry about Hepatitis C too?
I need someone that has proper English to clarify my situation. Please it has been bothering me.
Thank you whoever you are for answering.
I had anal oral sex about 3 weeks ago. After I finished I washed my mouth out with peroxide like I normally do. This time I accidentally bite my tongue causing it to bleed after I washed my mouth out. I'm worried because i'm not sure all the germs escaped my mouth. This was like 15 minutes after oral sex. I'm not sure how long anal mucus remained in my mouth or if the peroxide washed it away. I would hate to hear that someone's anal mucus was able to get in the sore from the tongue bite. Not sure how all that works. Since then I've been having post nasal drip mild flu symptoms like sore throat.
Last week I had sex with a woman and wore a condom the entire time. When we finished and I pulled out, there was blood on the condom. She later today me she thought she was done w/ her period but evidently not.
I carefully took off the condom and there was no blood on my skin, penis nor base. I get a bit paranoid with this stuff. Is there any chance I could have contracted any disease?
I am recently exposed to a hiv 1 patient during tooth extraction via blood mixed with about 1 ml of lignocaine in a syringe, I felt a resistance during pushing the piston of the syringe. Suddenly the blood mixed lignocaine leaked and splashed to my eyes. I washed my eyes immediately with water and asked the patient about any disease history and he told that he is hiv positive and on ART SINCE last 5 years. I told our chief MO about the incident and he suggested me to Start PEP.. I STARTED PEP within 2 hours TL and LR( tenofovir with lamivudin and lopinavir with ritonavir) and also checked my recent hiv status which came out negative... The ICTC CENTER also informed me that the source patient is on ART his recent cd4 count was nearly 560 and pt is well controlled.. My last information is I washed the syringe to remove the major blood from the transparent portion with water before drawing 2nd time lignocaine.and the retained blood from needle and hub was then mixed with 1 ml of lignocane... how much risk in this situation ? please enlighten me... i am from India
I am HIV+ , the other day I scratched my wound and touched my computer mouse someone touched the same mouse after some time can HIV spread this way?
can fingring someone with hiv get you infected if you have a cut on your finger?
Recently my cousin was at the playground with her baby (1.5 years old). She didn't watch him for about 30 seconds to minute while he found a syringe that may contained blood on the ground and took the needle in the mouth. Afterwards she checked his mouth, lips, etc. - there were no pokes. But she is afraid if he pushed the piston and blood from it got into his stomach.
Is this case a high risk for HIV transmission? Does the child need testing? If so, when can he do it after exposure?
Many thanks for your help!!
Last night I went to a gay video store to get a blowjob through a glory hole. But the guy on the other booth decided to insert my bare penis into his anus instead without warning. Luckily I felt something was off and pulled out immediately. I think the tip of my penis might have been inside his rectum and I might have been inside no more than 4 or 5 seconds.
Should I start getting PEP to prevent infection? Should I get tested in a few weeks?
I'm really scared.
