Please allow me to raise some questions/concerns related to HIV topic.
1. On the result of my serology test, it is indicated as follows:
SEROLOGIE DE DEPISTAGE VIH1-VIH2
Dépistage par électrochimiluminescence sur COBAS Elecsys 411
VIH 1/2 et Ag p24 (HIV Combi PT Cobas / ROCHE) : Négatif
According to the above information, could you please tell/confirm wether it is of the forth-generation assay?
2. After the exposure, I did take the PEP.
Is the PEP able to delay the conclusiveness of the serology test assay (even with the forth generation)?
First test at 31 days after the exposure (1 day after I finished the PEP); VIH 1/2 et Ag p24 (HIV Combi PT Cobas/Roche) : Négatif
Second test at 45 days after the exposure (15 days after I finished the PEP): VIH 1/2 et Ag p24 (HIV Combi PT Cobas/Roche): Négatif
For reassurance, at the 45th day post-exposure, I also requested to perform the Viral Load HIV test.
Conclusion: HIV-1 RNA non detected.
In most articles I have found, it is recommended to have a confirmatory test at 3 months post-exposure.
Waiting for the next test is still very stressful and anxious for me.
Thank you in advance for your answer.
I had unprotected oral sex 9 weeks ago. I used a condom for vaginal sex but it broke, and I stopped immediately when I noticed. I'm a 21 year old straight male. At 7 weeks, I tested negative for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. I did however have some bumps on my penis which the doctor said was molluscum. She froze them off.
2 days after getting tested, I had a very mild headache for a few seconds. The same thing happened a few times last week and has increased to every few hours in the past few days. I'm also experiencing a lot of tiredness and fatigue all day. I just checked and I am running a very, very mild fever (less than half a degree F). What could be the problem? Should I trust the HIV test I got after 7 weeks? I'm very stressed, nervous and paranoid. I just can't get this out of my head. I am going to see a doctor tomorrow.
On January 23, 2018, midnight and in morning, I had unprotected sex with a woman of unknown status, five times at midnight and one time in the morning. Ours is a subcontinent country and she became a citizen of a large first world country in the East and had lived there ever since. While talking, I learned she had known nothing about safe sex and she refused to test vehemently and stated that she hadn't had sex for over five years with anyone else (and she probably meant outside her marriage). The previous boyfriend married and had a healthy girl child, she said.
She was stupid despite her ideas on progressive thoughts and a loud mouth. This got to my mind and my OCD got triggered. She had also invited our other friends before me and I knew they were negative too but doubt had its own ways.
I started PEP about 67.5 hours later and completed it without missing a single dose. I tested immediately after PEP on day 29, 30, 41, 49, 58, 70, 72, 85 and 114 (12 weeks after PEP) with fourth generation Ab/Ag tests. All of them are negative.
Some confusing guidelines say 6 months post exposure on PEP. I don't like it. And I haven't had any symptom at all I guess. I think since it got warmer due to Summer, which is extremely hot here, I have been sweating profusely and I used to since childhood. I sweat even when I eat and even if I do not allow air, while sleeping.
Can I consider my 12 week post PEP results conclusive? Doctors Sera (says test after completing PEP is conclusive), Dr Sean, Dr David Wohl and Dr. Jose say testing 4-6 weeks after PEP is conclusive. Dr Tan and Dr. Benjamin Young say 8 weeks after PEP is conclusive. Dr Tan even goes on to say testing with antibody alone is enough after week eight and that Dr Tan says he has never seen a test immediately after PEP change later on.
On Day 72, I had also cut my little finger with a knife while cutting tape. I had sutures done immediately and feared that the needle used to give me the anesthetic was reused. Anyhow, the test 42 days after that incident has come negative. I had also believed that the phlebotomist who drew blood used a used syringe on day 30. I now believe these were unwarranted irrational fears.
Now, my concerns are:
1) Can I move on with my 114 day (12 week post PEP) results?
2) I should probably enter long term relationships and even get married. So, discussing and testing before we have sex increases my fears. So, does testing at the six month mark, which I don't want to, as I have had enough of fears before testing and waiting for the results.
3) I would still believe I would have to test 6 months after PEP and 7 months after exposure, as we go on.
4) I also want to believe that this result will stay the same and the 114 day result (12 weeks after PEP) is conclusive.
5) Long term consequences and complications that we read of the disease scare me, which is, as you might have seen, a "what if" question.
I hope I can mentally free myself from all these and remain negative to move on with other things in my life. I hope you can answer me soon. Thank you for all the great work you do :)
i am from india, i had taken tetanus shot on local clinic but i am not sure that the syringe was used or unused bcz he did not open from packet on front of me. so i am feeling lots of anxiety and done lots of test from 3 to 10 monts all are negative. suggest me what should i do? is there any chance to spread hiv like that condition?
Hi, I´m from Brazil. Sorry about my lame english. you may not believe what happen to me.
I justa found out that an old girlfriend that I had 14 years ago has HIV.
After I found out I´ve got really scared.
Now I´m feeling some fever and having some rashes on my body.
Before I do my hiv test (I´m going to do sooner) I did my CBC test. and... everything was completely normal: red blood cells, white blood cell, platelets. everything.
I have 2 doubts for you guys:
1 - Is it possible to have HIV for 14 years without treatment and my CBC is still completely normal? shouldn´t I be anemic, at least?
2 - I used to wear a condom with her, but I used to do cuniligus on her. what are the odds that I have become HIV+ on that time?
About a week ago I went out to a LGBT dance event. I was pretty drunk and decided to go to the bathroom. I usually squat and try to avoid sitting on the toilet seat before I go, but this night I was too drunk to do that. I also do not remember how the toilet seat looked (if it was wet, dirty, etc.). I had pretty bad chafing on my thighs from all the dancing and sat down on the toilet like that. Do I pose any risk in getting HIV or any other STI? I'm going in for my regular testing in less than a week, is it too early to detect HIV or STI's?
Thank you so much!
I'm taking a kind of anti-anxiety medicine which is called Estazolam, will it affect my testing result that is negative after more than three months.
I had sex 23/01/2016 and after that day I hadn't sex .And I did HIV tests after 3,8,12 ,17 weeks and after 7 months all of these tests are Negative I want to know Should I worry anymore ?
can i trust a 11 weeks test ? please help me
I have a question about dirty gloves. I'm not sure if the gloves the girl was wearing was clean. She was taking my dental xray. I noticed when she came to get be she already had it on. She kept touching inside my mouth with those gloves along with moving the dental xray machine with it. I'm worried the gloves she wore was dirty and if there was a possibility with someone else's salivia or even blood; would I be had risk for anything? HIV, etc.
