I just wanted to thank you guys for the awesome work you guys are doing around the world, helping people such as myself. I had a question. I had a kissing incident with a little biting last year, and I'm sure there was no blood involved. I went to a doctor who didn't advise PEP. The girl that I kissed was having symptoms consistent with ARS. I don't know if she was positive or not but all the sources I have read like avert.org, CDC say that saliva is not implicated in the transmission of HIV. However, I also read that when a person is having ARS during the acute stage, viral load is at it's peak.
1. Does this apply to the viral load in blood or saliva as well?
2. Is saliva infectious when a person is having ARS symptoms or it is never infectious regardless?
Please help me I have been losing some sleep over this incident
First, thank you so much for your replies, you website helps a lot!
My questions: I have read the reasons that are supposed to delay HIV testing (4th generation). But for example different antiviral meds are also used against simple flu, cold, etc. (interferon, etc.). They are also used to treat HVC. Of course we usually don't treat flu or cold so seriously and with so many meds as HVC. But in a case a person has HIV combo testing after 6 weeks of exposure (as many doctors say, they are conclusive) and don't get HVC treatment, cancer treatment, doesn't take PEPs, but took some drugs against flu or herpes for example, can his window period be prolonged?
Please help. i had unprotected sex with sex worker. Did an hiv rapid determine antibody test 6 weeks 5 days after PEP completion (10 weeks 5 days post exposure) which came back negative. But am worried of the oral thrush and ulcers on my tongue. Could this be seroconversion? Can i rely on my negative test results?
I had unprotected sex. a one time thing. i was given PEP within 72 hours. I took a determine HIV antibody test 1 month after completing PEP and it was non-reactive. I did another determine HIV antibody test 7 weeks after completing pep (11 weeks after exposure) and it was still negative.
Can the negative results change after 12 months post PEP since i have read that PEP delays seroconversion?
Today I met a guy online and we agreed we would meet for sex (I'm also male) Even before meeting, I inisted that we would be using condoms. At some point, after we touched and kissed, he sat on me, and rubbed my penis between his buttcheeks. I told him again, if he wanted to go ahead, that we would need a condom. He told me he was just teasing, and that there would be no actual penetration. Yet at some point I did feel my penis head stretching his anus, maybe even penetrating him with just the head, I can't be sure. I asked him to stop immediately and he did.
Later on, he was moving his penis near my anus, he was saying again : "I'm just teasing, I'm not penetrating". Yet at some point I definitely felt his penis head stretching my anus. That's when I said : "Ok, this is too much, either put on a condom or go". He finally put on the condom.
I'd like to know what risk there is for HIV transmission in these circumstances. I'd also like to know if such an exposure would warrant PEP.
Also, as a side note, I would like to mention how I'm sick and tired that even though I am always extremely clear about wanting to have protected sex, guys often seem to try, at some point, either to penetrate me without a condom or have me penetrate them without a condom. It's like the pressure of minimizing transmission risks always fall on my shoulders only, and I have to be careful not to have too much fun, because I need to stay alert in case the guy I'm with tries doing something to me without protection. I find this to be an utter lack of respect.
Thank you for your time.
Hi, Took PEP for 28 days. Source was negative at 29th day (DUO test and Proviral DNA Test). I am negative as of 68 days (DUO Test). I was tested negative on 7, 10, 21 and 45 th day using Proviral DNA and 51 days using PCR RNA test. Am i risk free now?
I had sex with someone on Dec 20 and the condom broke in between. I only realized after finishing. I started PEP in less than 48 hours and took it for 30 days. I tested at 42 days after exposure (11 days after PEP completion) the test was negative. The test I used was HIV CMIA (p24 and Antibody). I took another test (HIV CMIA serum) at 60 days after exposure (29 days after PEP completion) which was also negative
My question is this:
1. Are these test results encouraging?
2. I am planning to take another test at 42 days after PEP completion (74 days after exposure). Have you ever seen post pep test at 28 days turn positive in the future?
I have read on the Internet that HIV 4th gen test are conclusive at 6 weeks by expert. So if my test at 74 days (10 weeks and 4 days after exposure or 42 days after PEP completion) is negative. Can I consider this conclusive?
I had unprotected sex with a girl i met but i went for HIV testing with her after sex and we were both negative. Even though we were both negative i took PEP. i also believed her when she told me she last had sex months before that and it was safe sex because she did not hesitate to go for HIV testing. after PEP i took an HIV test 9 days after PEP and it was negative. My worry is that is it possible for the results to change since the guidlines say its suppose to be 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months after PEP? if PEP did not work can the results show positive immediately after PEP? Am really getting worried. please help
i am sick and worried because i have developed some flu and throat infection and was given some antibiotic. later on i developed some fungal infection in the mouth and i read somewhere and it said its an early symptom of HIV. i don't know if its because of antibiotics or not. i contacted that girl again so that we go for HIV testing and we agreed that i pay her if she is negative since am troubling her which also gives me comfort because she is sure she is still negative. what can be the cause of my infection? am i sick?
Dear Helpline Team
Hie..Thank you so much for all the great work you're doing, you are helping out so many people. Yesterday at around 1630 pm I bought some chips (french fries). Now in my country, Zimbabwe, french fries they are sometimes bagged into a transparent plastic bag. So I ate the chips, putting my hand into the plastic bag and digging for some more chips then removing my fingers and eating them. Now I got a small hangnail wound which had stung that morning and bled very minimally. I then ate some on the way home. I got home 15 minutes later and didnt finish all the chips and when I got home, I gave my little sister to finish up eating. I only started getting worried after I noticed that my hangnail wound was stinging (the skin was peeling and there was no active bleeding but a tiny red dot like a tiny sore inside the hangnail wound about 1mm)..So my sister ate the chips. I am now worried about the friction between my hangnail wound and the inside of the plastic bag..what about if a tiny amount of my blood went on the inside of my plastic bag..Could that blood somehow find its way onto my sister's fingers or the chips as she drew some of them out and ate them.
I've been so worried about having HIV I've never had sex before only fingered 2 girls with latex gloves on and got bit on the lip by a girl whilst kissing her
1. I am now worried that if a microscopic amount of blood went on the inside of the plastic bag of the chips and then when my sister was using her fingers to dig in for more chips, if it contacted her fingers and/or the chips and then she put those fingers and chiptrs in her mouth could she be infected?
2. What about if she licked her fingers or the ketchup inside the plastic bag?
2. This incident happened around 8pm yesterday. Should I take her to see the doctor and ask for PEP?
I am so scared of something bad happening to her I don't know what I would do if I infected her I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Please help me.
NB* I remember putting ketchup (tomato sauce on the chips before I ate them) so much of the inside of the plastic bag was covered in ketchup. Could the little HIV viral particles survive in the inside of the plastic bag and on the ketchup and be transferred to my sister's fingers then possibly the mucous membranes of her mouth when she ate the chips or licked her fingers?
