On January 23, 2018, midnight and in morning, I had unprotected sex with a woman of unknown status, five times at midnight and one time in the morning. Ours is a subcontinent country and she became a citizen of a large first world country in the East and had lived there ever since. While talking, I learned she had known nothing about safe sex and she refused to test vehemently and stated that she hadn't had sex for over five years with anyone else (and she probably meant outside her marriage). The previous boyfriend married and had a healthy girl child, she said.
She was stupid despite her ideas on progressive thoughts and a loud mouth. This got to my mind and my OCD got triggered. She had also invited our other friends before me and I knew they were negative too but doubt had its own ways.
I started PEP about 67.5 hours later and completed it without missing a single dose. I tested immediately after PEP on day 29, 30, 41, 49, 58, 70, 72, 85 and 114 (12 weeks after PEP) with fourth generation Ab/Ag tests. All of them are negative.
Some confusing guidelines say 6 months post exposure on PEP. I don't like it. And I haven't had any symptom at all I guess. I think since it got warmer due to Summer, which is extremely hot here, I have been sweating profusely and I used to since childhood. I sweat even when I eat and even if I do not allow air, while sleeping.
Can I consider my 12 week post PEP results conclusive? Doctors Sera (says test after completing PEP is conclusive), Dr Sean, Dr David Wohl and Dr. Jose say testing 4-6 weeks after PEP is conclusive. Dr Tan and Dr. Benjamin Young say 8 weeks after PEP is conclusive. Dr Tan even goes on to say testing with antibody alone is enough after week eight and that Dr Tan says he has never seen a test immediately after PEP change later on.
On Day 72, I had also cut my little finger with a knife while cutting tape. I had sutures done immediately and feared that the needle used to give me the anesthetic was reused. Anyhow, the test 42 days after that incident has come negative. I had also believed that the phlebotomist who drew blood used a used syringe on day 30. I now believe these were unwarranted irrational fears.
Now, my concerns are:
1) Can I move on with my 114 day (12 week post PEP) results?
2) I should probably enter long term relationships and even get married. So, discussing and testing before we have sex increases my fears. So, does testing at the six month mark, which I don't want to, as I have had enough of fears before testing and waiting for the results.
3) I would still believe I would have to test 6 months after PEP and 7 months after exposure, as we go on.
4) I also want to believe that this result will stay the same and the 114 day result (12 weeks after PEP) is conclusive.
5) Long term consequences and complications that we read of the disease scare me, which is, as you might have seen, a "what if" question.
I hope I can mentally free myself from all these and remain negative to move on with other things in my life. I hope you can answer me soon. Thank you for all the great work you do :)
AFTER A HIGH RISK HIV EXPOSURE DUE TO VAGINAL INTERCOURSE WITH A FEMALE SEX WORKER NO CONDOM AND MANY ARS SYMPTOMS. HOW MUCH STOCK SHOULD I PUT IN A NEGATIVE AG/AB HIV 1/2 TEST BY CMIA AT 51 DAYS AFTER EXPOSURE.
How i can get TRuvada medication through BC health???
Two months ago I started using PrEP. Four weeks before starting with PrEP I had a minor HIV risk. 3,5 weeks after this risk I was tested with a PCR HIV test and a few days later (4 weeks after the risk) I was tested with a 4th generation HIV test again, both to make sure I wasn't HIV positive before starting with PrEP. Both tests were negative, so I started with the PrEP. Were these tests a good indication of my status?
A month after starting with PrEP I was again tested with a 4th generation HIV test, which also came back negative. Now my question is whether the PrEP could influence the test results of this HIV test. If the initial tests before starting with PrEP were conclusive this doesn't really matter of course, but if they weren't I was wondering if the result of my last test could be a false negative. My health care provider says PrEP doesn't influence HIV testing, but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks in advance!
Hi thank you for the great work you guys do. I need some advice about my situation
I'm a gay male when I was a child I was sexually assaulted by a man as result I contracted Hepatitis B and became a chronic carrier unfortunately and have been living with Hepatitis b since then and I'm an active carrier. I like a guy I met in a bar recently and when I wanted to disclose my status to him, he disclosed first and told me that he is HIV positive and hasn't started treatment yet ( we are both 23 years old). I'm really scared that if we go intimate, we might infect each other with our diseases. I'm not sure if the hepatitis b vaccine can work for him as he has HIV and his immune system is weak. Is there a way that we can have a healthy relationship without passing our infections to each other? I'm willing to fight till the end because I really like him and his status wouldn't matter to me , but what matter to me is my status because I don't want to infect him and make his situation worse and of course I have no interest in becoming HIV positive also.
Any advice would be great What should I do?
Thank you very much
I had a lot of risk (gay, anal receptive, unprotected) in San Francisco about 21 months ago before getting sober from alcohol. Two months later, I came down with night sweats/fevers, sore throat, no energy, loss of appetite and had to go to half days at work for a few weeks. My doctor sent me to an oncologist thinking I may have leukemia. The oncologist thought it was HIV, but my doctor said I was testing negative. My oncologist did a bone marrow biopsy and found it to be negative for cancer. I tested just 3 months ago (blood test through my San Francisco doctor who works with patients who have HIV), and I tested negative again.
However, in the last 3 weeks the afternoon/night fever/sweats have returned and a slight sore throat. I was on Truvada (rarely) during the risk period 21 months ago before getting sober from alcohol. But since then, I have regularly taken my Truvada. Could this skew the test result?
Could this be HIV? Is it possible that I was infected and the blood tests don't show it because of the Truvada? A friend of mine said he got violently ill and did not test positive during that time. It took a year before he tested positive and he wasn't on Truvada.
I have an oral sex from Jan 15th 2016. My local doctor prescribed PrEP with "tenofovir disoproxil and emtricitabine". I completed the medication in Feb 11th 2016. 2 weeks later, I took the 4th generation test (combi test) and negative. I am going to take the test after 3 months on this weekend by rapid test as my local doctor's requirements. However, I am so worried and stressed that it turns into positive. Could you please help to advise my likelihood of negative status in this case?
Thanks so much,

I understand that testing 3 months after last dose of PEP is required for a conclusive results, but what about taking PREP? What's the window period while a person is taking prep?
I have been taking Prep for two months, and I have a 4th gen test negative 45 days after last dose of prep, and a 3rd gen test negative 12 weeks after last dose of prep. Can I consider this results as conclusive?
I have very unhappy life this previews 3 months.
I have a boyfriend who already in relationship with me since January 2015. If you asking about my role, I am the TOP. Since the beginning i usually had sex without condom as I feel safe, only have sex with my partner.
But life has changed, when one day on 27 November 2015 my boyfriend told me that he was diagnosed HIV positive, on October 2015. I was shocked, and I decided to take the test in the same day when he disclose his HIV status. on that day I, i remembered that it was 2 months since the last time I have unprotected sex with him. It was 2 months since the last possibility exposed by the HIV virus. And the result becomes NEGATIVE. But the nurse told me that I have to take the test 3 months from the first test I took. Now today is almost 3 months since the last test I took. I am so crazy this last many months, wondering that my result will change to be POSITIVE. I have many question:
1. How it is possible when my boyfriend is positive, and i am negative this far, since I always had an unprotected sex.
2. Does my test will be changed in my next test? How accurate my first test in 2 months after exposure?
3. Is it 100% I will be HIV positive since I had sex with HIV + people?
4. Is it possible for me to continue my relationship with him? I love him so much.
I am definitely looking forward your your reply. I am so freaking out.
