Rapid/Point of Care Test

Rapid Point-of-Care follow-up

Hi - I posted this earlier in the year:
http://helpline.aidsvancouver.org/question/strip-club-fear-coldsore

As a follow-up, I have had a Rapid Point-of-Care test at 4 weeks and then 9 weeks (less 2 days). Both of which came back negative. I understand the window period is 12 weeks, however, how accurate can I consider the results from the above two tests?

I am fighting a large amount of anxiety and compulsions to get tested over and over again.

HIV Testing Philippines / 9 weeks non-reactive

Greetings Helpline,

I am a male from the Philippines. Had my last possible exposure last December 2015. After that, and I feel I should be responsible with my health I had the following test to be sure that I am okay, I am free from HIV and won't be infecting others.

I had the following test and all are (Immunochromatographic Assay Rapid Test, Determine HIV-1/2 - Antibody Test.

Test Results are as follow:
23 days - non-reactive
37 days - non-reactive
53 days - non-reactive
63 days - non-reactive

My questions are as follow.
1) How reliable are my test (Immunochromatographic Rapid Test, Determine HIV-1/2 - Antibody Test) that looks for antibodies 9 weeks after last possible exposure?
2) Why is it in our country they still reco the 6 month long conclusive testing that surely ain't helping individuals that are experiencing anxiety? Would I be safe with a 3 month conclusive testing as given by WHO and recommended by specialist in the field?
3) How confident can I be that may 7 weeks, and 9 weeks HIV non-reactive test won't change on the 3 month mark? I will be having my last test this March 2016 to clear and have a conclusive result.

Thank you so much! You guys are helping individuals like me who are concerned, given that here in our country they reco 6 month which is un-acceptable specially if your non in PEP, do not have a week immune system and etc.

Hoping to hear from you guys! All the best!

What should I do?

I had protected sex with a female csw 15 months ago.Condom was intact till the end.Later I found her she is postive.Since that I am suffering from lots of symptoms like swollen lymph nodes in neck, white tongue, loose stool and sometimes shortness of breathing.Recently I noticed significant curving of my nail.I have been suffering from low grade fever for 2 weeks.I've tested negative several times with 3rd generation antibody test 13 weeks rapid test,24 weeks elisa,28 weeks rapid test. Now my questions are.

1.What are the chances of me being seronegative infection infected but did not produce antibody?
2.Are my symptoms typical of HIV infection?
3.Should I go for PCR test?
4.Have you seen any case when beyond the window period someone is antibody negative but detectable in PCR?
5.Was I at risk in the first place?
5.What should I do now?

Protected sex and CARD TEST

Hi,

I had protected vaginal sex with a CSW three months before and have taken a CARD Test (Screening test) yesterday that is after about 95 days of exposure. Result came negative. I felt very happy and bought a beautiful gift for my gift and took a pledge that never again with a pros. Can I take the result as conclusive. Should I take a test again after 3 months.

Unprotected oral sex, cum in mouth

Hi, I am a 23 years old male. 6 weeks ago I was given an unprotected oral sex (fellatio+ anal rimming) for about 10-15 minutes by a massage lady. It ended up with me cum in her mouth and it was painful to my penis. Luckily I did not injure my penis. I did not know was there any cuts/ sores/ bleeding in her mouth due to bad gum health. And I forgot to ask her whether she is clean. A week later I had 2 days of running nose and diarrhea. By the 10th days I had a swollen nodule at the back of my palate and it was painful for 2-3 days. It wasn't an ulcer. That caused a bit of sore throat. I then had a Rapid test done and it turned out to be negative. By the 3rd week, I experienced joint pain at my left knee and ankle for 4-5 days. Now in the 6th week, I am experiencing some discomfort under my left armpit. I could feel a nodule there, but it is only if I pressed hard. Otherwise, I did not experience high fever, body rashes etc. Now I am worried if I could have acquired HIV from my previous unprotected oral sex. Please enlighten.

acute Hep B PLZ HELP!!! Possible co-infection?

I have a Question, Several months ago ( 3 - 4 moths ) I was diagnosed with Hepatitis B; my current infection was very, but very symptomatic; That desease is already controlled by hematologist. My ALT levels are normal now, but the virus is still in blood, we are waiting for antibody response ( 6 moths of aware ) .
Since does that happened, I have being really scared about HIV possible coinfection.
I tested 5 times!!! ( as an obsessive ) , 1 was a rapid test 3th gen. and the another 4 were 4th. Generation Laboratory Test ( combo +p24 antigen). All of them each week since my last possible exposure ( oral sex receptive )

I don’t really know when or were matched the HBV ( but probably was more than 4 months ago) ; but Im really concern and my question is:

Does Acute, symptomatic and diagnosed Hepatitis B can delay, hide, or affect the HIV accuracy test?

DO you recommend re-test 6 months after my last, in this case, low-risk exposure? ( and that exposure wasn’t obviously when I watched HBV, cause the HBV window period).

Ill be really glad to receive your answers, believe me, Since the Hepatitis B was diagnosed my nervous are killing me, Im just 30 YO and was just diagnosed with hypertension about stress and anxiety. Believe me, I will never, never have sex without a condom :(

God bless you!

Pooled RNA test

Hi
Thanks for answering my question on chances of HIV when the condom broke condom during intercourse with a sex worker.
I will appreciate if you can address my following concerns :
1. Is there a place in Edmonton where I can get Pooled RNA test done.
2. should I wait 10 day or exactly 12 days after the exposure to get this test done.
3.are the results to this test conclusive of my HIV status or do I need to get another test done after 3 months.
4.I was reading other blogs on the situation where the condom broke during intercourse and the Dr.s have recommended the chances between 1/10000 and 1/1000 of getting HIV in this case. which is again very confusion.
Is there any substance to these statistics? if so then what are the chances?
Please advice I am really very scared.
Thanks

what is the generation of Rapid Kits ?

Hi,
I am an Uncircumcised Indian male, Who engaged in sex with a stranger woman of unknown HIV status. After being Intoxicated I had engaged in sex but I wore condom and the encounter ended up with... Condom Failure! Yes, The condom slipped off !! I don't exactly know it happen in middle of sex or the end?
What ever it maybe you considered this act as a High Risk. I Agreed and went for test at 51day mark(about 7 more weeks) the results came back Negative. I am aware of that it is not conclusive!
After 8.5 weeks from the incident I am suffering from soar throat, Cough and Headache!!
Please Let me Know:
1. The test was Finger prick Rapid Antibody test (provided results in 20min), May I know which generation test kit it was?
it is Comb Aid HIV 1/2 antibody test.
2. I read lot about ARS Symptoms. Is there really a chance to Appear ARS after 8.5 weeks from Exposure.
3. Does cough consider as one of the ARS symtoms regarding HIV infection.
4. There is a lot conflict and confusion in India about HIV window period and Testing kits generation. You are requested to provide
Information about these issues.
a) What is window period and on what circumstances the window will prolong?
b) How would we come to which generation kits are using in Govt.Hospitals?
c) what is the generation of Rapid Kits

Regards from India
