I had a viral wart on my index finger the day I took the rapid test. The nurse pricked and drew blood from the very same finger. Does having a viral wart/infection on the finger the blood is drawn from affect the validity of the test result?
Hi team, i have high risk exposure around 10 weeks back. I had rapid test at 25days and 10 weeks mark negative. May i know possible negative when test on 12 weeks ? How the acurancy for HIV1/HIV2 Rapid test Kits?
is rapid test reliable and accurate?
I slept with a person of unknown HIV status 5 months ago... I feel it was a really big mistake... and I would never do it again... we had unprotected sex...
I got tested at 4 months (INSTI) and now (5 months) with ELISA test. Both came negative. The doctors told me the accurancy is almost 100% and I need no other worries about it. There are internet sources which say you need 6 months to get conclusive results tho. I am so sad about it... I think I cant wait another month... of suffering... :( my tears are so real now... i did a mistake... but it seems it never will get a definitive end.
Thanx for your answer.
I would just like to know why the PCR RNA test isn't considered a conclusive test according to the FDA? I've read about many different window periods, some as early as 3 days, and others as early as 14 days. They seem pretty reliable from what I've read, the only problems that seem to be in the way is the cost, and the "high" false positive chances, as high as 2.5%. Which isn't a concern for someone who has gotten a negative because the false negative is even lower than a false positive, I'm guessing under the 1% range, so about a 99% percent accuracy. Which isn't much difference from a Gold Standard ELISA test post 3 months, which is around 99.7%.
Are there any statistically significant numbers that point that a negative PCR test turns into a positive ELISA post 3 months?
Sorry for asking so many questions, but it's just interesting to me why an RNA PCR test isn't considered on the same level of reliability as an ELISA.
They don't seem to have a significant difference in accuracy for one to be FDA approved and the other not to be. PCR tests have been used for a while now, and it just seems odd to me why they aren't considered reliable enough for diagnostic purposes.
I think a much shorter window period would save alot of people of that worry for the 3 month period. The expense is definitely a concern, but for those who have access to this test, it doesn't seem like a 3 month ELISA test is necessary unless for anything than re assurance.
My last sexual exposure (Dec 15th) was with someone whose status i don't know. I tested at 8 weeks with a lab based EIA, 14 weeks with a Oraquick swab test, and 16 weeks (Apr 5th ) with Oraquick swab test. All came back negative. Do I need to test out till 6 months or am I conclusively HIV negative?
(my last exposure was receiving oral sex and mutual masturbation with a female and I haven't had any risky behavior since then)

Hi.First I want to thank you guys for the help and possibility that you are presenting here. Thank you!I have had 3 possible exposures to hiv through sex with 3 CSWs. 3 episodes of unprotected cunilingus and 2 episodes of unprotected fellatio. My last possible exposure (fellatio) was in early November 2011 (over 5 months ago). The other episodes was approx 1 month before my last possible exposure.I have tested negative on 10-12 different occasions over the past 5 months. 4 weeks (rappid duo test). 5 weeks (duo test at the doctors, sent to a microbiologylab). 6 weeks (rappid duo test). 7 weeks (rappid duo test). 8 weeks (duo test at the doctors, sent to a microbiologylab). 9 weeks (rappid test). Duo-? 12 weeks (rappid test). Duo-?13 weeks (duo test at the doctors, sent to a microbiologylab).15 weeks (rappid test). Duo-?18 weeks (duo test at the doctors, sent to a microbiologylab).20weeks The new one minute test from BioLytical.3 weeks ago I had my worst and most severe flu ever and my Dr told me that I had pneumonia. My Dr did some additional testing and here are the results that freaked me out: -- cd4 count 433 (should be over 500) -- cd8 count 209 (200 is the lower limit, a bit low..?) -- cd3 count 657 (should be over 800) -- crp 114 (should be under 10) -- Sedimentation (SR) 33 -- S-HIV Ag/As - NEGATIVE (5 months). -- have swollen lymphnodes on my neck 6-10 of them on left side, above my collarbone (been there for 3-4 months). They range in size from under one centimeter to a little over 2cm I think, they are hard to touch but not tender or painful. My Dr told me he found nothing wrong with my tests, but I am not sure if he knows enough about hiv and testing. Could it be that the lowered levels in blood test really are because I had the flu and pneumonia..? I am so freaked out, scared and feel lost.

I tried to have protected intercourse with a person of unknown status. However at the end I realised that I did not have the condom on anymore. I am extremely nervous about the situation as I do not know when the condom came off.
I did not ejaculate and did not have any pre-cum either, however I am very nervous about the situation as there are too many unknown variables.
How soon can I get tested to know my status if I did pick HIV or not ?This is driving me nuts.
