This is hopefully my final continuation on this topic.
So for example, if I had symptoms that were related to HIV infection/acute symptoms, then the test would return positive, right? I know that symptoms can't diagnose HIV infection, but from what I understood from what you said (which will hopefully help others with my questions) is that if I were to be experiencing HIV symptoms, the test would be positive if they were.
I have actually taken a PCR Test on Friday 10/23/2015 (11 days after possible exposure) and I will have the results in on Tuesday. How accurate are the results at 11 days? I was reading some reliable sources and they said that this test is accurate at 10-12 days after possible exposure.
Also, is it possible to contract HIV with microscopic holes in the condom? Like in my case, the guy didn't ejaculate because I stopped the intercourse. But there's the thing about precum, which is also known to transmit HIV. So basically, have their been any documented cases or is their a risk for transmission from microscopic holes in the condom?
I am planning on testing again on November 2nd, 2015 (3 week and 1 day mark) via a 4th generation test regardless of PCR results.
Also, what is the number for the Helpline? 1-844-INFO-HIV, what is that translated in numbers? I think I would get faster response if I had the Helpline toll free number for Canada and US Region.
Thanks so much for your support as always!
OLD POSTS - Old continuations, new update above, old posts below.
This is a con't of my question that was answered below. I know that WHO and AIDS Vancouver don't think of symptoms. However, is muscle ache in my upper right arm a sign of HIV? Or the lymph node that appears to be a little swollen up in the upper front ear lobe of my left ear? It's not really noticeable but, there it is.
Also, I was at the E.R at the 7 day Post Exposure mark (Sunday 18 Oct) and they did a 4th generation test, which I am likely to get the results of today. They said if they call that means I am positive, but that if they don't call me that means I am good.
I guess my question is, are ARS/Seroconversion symptoms known to appear this early?
As for my question, as I said, he didn't ejaculate, because I stopped the intercourse myself, and the condoms used weren't broken. Doesn't that in itself diminishes the chances of transmission to basically null? I am guessing that since my mother and brother for example have been sick, that this has also affected me since we live in the same household.
I am paranoid of my health as it is, and I need to know if I'll be fine. I have already scheduled an appointment with my primary health doctor for the 3 week and 1 day post exposure mark, to get tested for HIV via a 4th generation test since the Window period for such test would be at it's strongest then. Considering that's within it's within period, a negative result would be conclusive, but as usual, I will also test at the 3 month mark to make sure.
I initiated a sex intercourse with another male (male to male sex). I was the bottom in this case and we used TWO condom.
We didn't conduct any oral sex activities. During sex we replaced the condom with a another because we both wanted to feel more pleasure, or at least try. Long story short, we didn't finish the sex, and he never ejaculated and he left per my request.
I tested both condoms with water to see if there would be any leakage and there was none.
What are the risks into me getting HIV? Am I completely fine and don't need to worry? This happened today 10/11/2015, so I still have time to run to the E.R or my doctor and get PREP if needed.
Hi there! Thanks for contacting us with your HIV related questions/concerns. We're happy to help!
Anal protected sex is considered a low-risk activity. What this means is that although there have been a few reports of infection in this manner, they're usualyl under certain identifiable conditions. In this case, a condition would be a broken condom. Your condom didn't break, which greatly diminishes the risk. In theory, it would be no risk since condoms prevent the exchange of bodily fluids, but we say low risk to account for human error and breaking.
I would say you don't need to get tested or get PEP for this encounter, since the risk level was basically none.
I hope this helped!

Hello and thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.
We want to clarify that acute symptoms of HIV cannot be identified because they vary so much. If you're experiencing symptoms related to HIV, your HIV test will make that clear. Some people experience a flu-like illness between 2 and 6 weeks post-exposure, but dissipate promptly. In the exposure you have described, we do not see risk factors (e.g. broken condom) present that would lead us to believe you were exposed to HIV, as Christina had explained. However, it's great that you are getting tested already, so we would encourage you to follow through with the process, to provide yourself with some relief but not necessarily due to a high-risk of acquiring HIV.

I would like to get one qustion plz,,sir I had sex with profesional person without condom in may 2014 and immaidetly my penis was discharge colour of top so tht was may be fungal infection ,and I had took madicin prophylaxis after 5 days exposure and tested hiv after 3 monthes so report was negative ,and tested also on feb 2015 so report also negative ,but this time I have sore throat and dry cough and slightly headache and on hand came one small red spot and gone within 5 hours so sir I confused that it's hiv?
I recently had a boil in my mouth, and it had popped. I was constantly washing out my mouth in order to clean out the pus and blood. After a little while, I started poking it with my finger. I washed my hands before touching it, but I was wondering if there was any chance that I could have put myself at risk if say, something was on my hand.
Also, how effective is a 4th Generation Test at six weeks?
Thanks a bunch.
I hope you reply me, I had a low risk HIV incident : mutual masturbation with a girl (am a man) her liquid touched my penis , had some cuts on it.
I had insisted to have pep even doctor say she does not advice. I then stopped it after 2 days.
The doctor advised blood test for other diseases upon the incident even after 1 day of the incident scan for hepatitis and chamladia and gronhera .
the nurse came with unusual needle that did not open it in front of me , it was hollow needle . one can insert a tube to collect blood from behind and gas on the side a flexible white tube to control blood flow..never seen like it before.
The problem I keep thinking maybe because I requested pep:
_ maybe they found an opportunity to infect someone with HIV and teat pep..since I waited long in the blood collecting room till they come. Is such thing possible in Montreal?
-I could not see blood on the outside of the needle, but if there were some inside the hollow needle from previous blood draw, can I get HIV such way ? As the needle is inserted in me to draw blood...I read HIV live few hours in blood droplets!
i gave oral sex without ejaculation. 6 weeks and a few days after i had cold-like symtoms like runny nose, sore throat, fever, malaise that vanished a few days after (i was on antibiótics), however the fever less tan 38c lasted for 2 weeks thoug it was my only syntom i didnt felt bad, i didnt experience any rash.
i dont know if this are ars symtoms and if they are on time because in many sites like cdc or aids gov says 2-4, but other 2-6

Hey guys . First of all thanks for your help. You might remember me a girl in panic for hiv and reliability of Eclia tests.
I went again at week 19 at the clinic . I asked to meet a doctor and she bless her recommended me to go to a hiv specialist . She said is better for you to talk with him . I went to the nurses room and they took my blood for the 7th time laughing at me and telling me that i only needed to go at 3months 6 month 1 year , I was like yeah ok .
I went to the other clinic and meet the doctor , the specialist . I sat down with him and explained i took ac anti hiv duo test . Asked him if this test was looking for both antigen and antibody ? He confirmed . Asked him if antibodies wasnt creating yet antigen would be there , he confirmed .
He told me nowdays we can find hiv as soon as 4 weeks after infection . Antigen will be there he explained me but this only for the first 4 weeks then when it start decreasing antibodies will be there and the test would pick them up . I told him i took 6 hiv tests and the last one 1 hour before talking with him and he smiled and told me will be a negative . Maybe you can doubt the chance of one test missing hiv but after 6 ones , there was need for me to worry , he said .
I told him about the advices i was given at the other clinic and they are partners with eachother , told him even a doctor said that only at 6 months an infection could be found . Those are old date information and it only refers to an antibody test he said . That is why you need an expert to talk to . You are negative without any doubt . It doesnt matter if your partner was + or - your tests have ruled out hiv . I asked him about RNA , he said there is no need for me to do that . 7 negatives in 4 months you are conclusively negative . I did not go for the RNA since is not needed .
Then i went back to the other clinic and for the first time in my life i was calm waiting the results . I went to the nurses who laughed at the information i gave them through internet and explained about this duo test. I told them that the expert said there is no need to test at 6 months and about the reliability of duo tests , it can pick up hiv-1 as soon as 4 weeks and to call it conclusive hiv1 or hiv2 is a follow up test at 3 months then stop . I told them that was not nice and it ruined 5 months of my life their advice to retest at 6 months and 1 year . They told me that that was what they learned in school and they follow it and they did not know about this new test .
I took the last test , ofc a negative one at week 19 . Then came home . I collected all my hiv tests and set them on fire and i am sorry if this is rude but i yelled . F... you Hiv , F... off . You have ruined my life for 5 months now is time to get over you .
Do not doubt a duo test ! My only question is if hiv antigen will be high even in people treating cancer or hcv . I mean a duo test will be positive if hiv is there even if antibodies arent creating ?
I am done ! I am conclusively hiv negative and there is no way i will doubt my tests again . Thank you for your time
Hello. I am 23 yrs old guy. I had unprotected anal sex with another guy that I am a bottom and he cum inside me. Ten or twelve days later I experienced deep tiredness and numbness all over my body. 14 days after expose I experienced itchy inside penis and discharge ( look like urine) 17 days after exposure I experienced fever and headache ( but I think it was stress ) 19 days after expose I experienced itchy rash on chest, back, face, scalp, waist. Then afterward I experienced sore throat, lower back pain, neck ache, coating on tongue, bumps on back tongue, joint pain. In short I experienced all ars symptoms.
1 - I tested on day 19 with rapid blood test >> negative
2- Tested again on day 35 with rapid blood test >> negative
3-My partner tested 1 day after sex encounter with rapid blood test >> negative
4-He told me that he tested three or four months before and >>> negative
3-4 I don't know and I dun think I should believe him
Are all these symptom cause by HIV or what? Can Stress cause all these symptoms?
Please help... I am going to get married soon.. I dun want HIV and I dun want to transmit it to my spouse
I had unprotected sex with a house wife. I took hiv test on 22nd day in hi-tech diagnostic centre which come negative value 0.1 , on 26th day again I took hiv tridot test came negative along with cbc tesult normal. I asked that lady to take test and 2month after sex with me she took test and get negative result as she said, I managed to get her husband hiv test result negative. On 92nd day i took 4th generation hiv test result negative. I am still worried because some sites mention to take test on 6 month mark. I don't know what to do.Please advice me.
Hi I had an unprotected sex on the 25th of August. Since then I've been extremely worried and did the following tests:
- 2 days after sex Eclia test, result 0.21 non reactive
- 38 days after sex Eclia test, result 0.61 non reactive. On the same day I also did an Elisa duo test antibody and p24 and it came out negative.
- 50 days after sex Eclia test, result 0.81 non reactive.
- 57 days after sex M.E.I.A test, result negative
I am worried about the increasing index which is getting closer to the cut off value and that this is related to seroconversion. Can you please advise me on the above? Is it conclusive? Why is that value increasing ?
