afternoon. I has sex with a lady who o later confirmed was HIV positive. I used a condom however, I have some healing sores on my scrotum. immediately after sex I went to wash up with soap and water. however, I noticed the soapy water running through the sore. am I at risk of infection?
Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you are asking about the risk of HIV acquisition through open sores on your scrotum coming into contact with vaginal fluid that is HIV positive. From the information gathered this scenario is determined to be low risk (evidence of transmission occurs through these activities when certain conditions are met), as even though you wore a condom, there is the potential for vaginal fluid to have direct contact with the scrotal area and thus the open sores.
From what we understand from the question, this scenario does satisfy parts of the transmission equation (see below), in that there was HIV positive body fluids that could potentially have direct access to the bloodstream.
Recommendation: We would highly recommend you speak to a physician about being tested for HIV. We would also suggest asking your physician about PrEP/PEP (preventative and post-exposure prophylactics) for consideration in the future.
Thank you for your question, and good luck!
