AIDS how long it takes?

Question:

how many long it takes - ( years ) gets to manifest the AIDS( not the HIV)?

Answer:

Hi there, Thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver helpline with your HIV related questions/concerns. We're happy to help!!

Just as a reference, this link outlines the stages of an HIV infection.

Anyways, generally speaking, if left completely untreated, it takes several years to progress to AIDS, up to 10 years. While it's hard to say for any individual specifically, the general trend has been between 5-10 years.

That being said, with the current treatments available, HIV no longer progresses to AIDS, and people are living normal lives with the same life expectancy as their HIV negative counterparts. It is no longer a death sentence, rather, we often see HIV+ people being even MORE healthy since they are keeping up with doctor visits and a healthy lifestyle more.

I hope that helped

Sincerely,

Christina
