I at risk of hiv ???

Answer:

Hi there,

Thank you for choosing the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as your source of information.

For you to be at risk for transmission, your boyfriend needs to be HIV positive. Otherwise, you would not spontaneously be at risk of contracting HIV.

If he was positive (and why you have written up in your posting is a typo), I cannot give you a definitive answer to your questions.

Giving oral sex puts you at a low risk, as far as HIV transmission goes. Low risk means that there is a potential for HIV transmission because it involves the exchange of body fluids. With that being said, there have been few reports of infection attributed to oral sex.

The best way to know your status is to get tested. Also, feel free to reach out to a health care professional in your area.
