Question:

So me and my mates where doing truth or dare and ,y dare was to lick the bottom of a shoe. And afterwards all ,y mates where jocking that I will get aids now. By me doing that is their a risk of getting hiv? Thank you.

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about acquring HIV from licking the bottom of a shoe. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be No Risk (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario).

In order for HIV transmission to occur three criteria need to be satisfied. These are: bodily fluid containing HIV having direct access to the bloodstream of an individual through a High Risk Activity.

In this scenario you have licked the bottom of a shoe. Please note that HIV is not carried through saliva. Bodily fluids that do carry HIV are: blood, semen (including pre-ejaculate), vaginal fluids, breast milk, and rectal secretions (1). In this dare that you have done there was no exchange of bodily fluids from another individual. This would render the criteria for HIV transmission to be incomplete and HIV acquisition is deemed not possible.

Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, refer to a physician for other health related questions.
