Cuts on lips and deep French kissing

Question:

I have a habit of biting my lips and that is why I have many cuts on my lips and inside of my mouth. Recently I kissed a girl, it was a deep French kiss. Am I at any risk?

Answer:

Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

It sounds like you are concerned on the likelihood of acquiring HIV from your activity.

From what you have told me, you are concerned on whether cuts on your lips and deep French kissing puts you at risk of acquiring HIV. To our knowledge this activity would be considered a No Risk activity as saliva contains enzymes that breakdown the HIV virus. Below is an HIV Transmission chart that shows the necessary factors needed for HIV Transmission to be possible.
