Driver's Licence medical condition declaration

Question:

I just renewed my BC Driver's Licence and was concerned that I was forced to declare if I had any medical or physical conditions. Normally, I would not reveal my HIV status to anyone. Do we have to reveal HIV status here? Do you have any advice?

Answer:

Hi there thanks for contacting us with your questions, we're happy to help!

You do not have to disclose your HIV status on your BC drivers license. This document outlines when you would need to disclose your HIV status: http://www.aidslaw.ca/site/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/CriminalInfo2014_ENG.pdf

Essentially, you have to disclose your status to sexual partners if you're having unprotected sex (no condom) with a viral load higher than undetectable. You can read through the document for more information, but you definitely don't have to disclose your HIV status on your drivers license.

I hope this helped!

Sincerely,

Christina
