Fellatio with condom on a man

Question:

Hi, i've been searching all over your forum, but i got mixed answers so i'll ask it directly. Is it performing fellatio (giving head) with a condom to a man, low risk or negligible?

thank you

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the risk of acquiring HIV associated with performing oral sex with a condom. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be Negligible Risk. Receiving oral sex and performing oral sex with a barrier falls under Negligible Risk as there are no evidence or no documented cases of transmission. However, there is a theoretical possibility. Performing oral sex without a barrier is considered to be of Low Risk.

The chance a person with a HIV-negative status will acquire HIV from oral sex with a partner who is living with HIV is extremely low. Though the risk of HIV transmission through oral sex is low, several factors may increase that risk, including sores in the mouth or vagina or on the penis, bleeding gums, oral contact with menstrual blood, and the presence of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Using a barrier like a condom or dental dam during oral sex can further reduce the risk of transmitting HIV, other STDs, and hepatitis.[1]

Recommendation: There are no evidence or no documented cases of transmission refer to Physician for more personalized answers.
