Hiv from money eating

Question:

Can you get Hiv from eating after touching money if you forget to wash your hands please tell

Answer:

Hello and thank you for your inquiry.

We understand that you are wondering if it is possible to acquire HIV by eating without washing your hands first, specifically after you have handled money. This situation is categorized as No Risk, meaning that transmission of HIV is not possible in this scenario.

In order for an HIV transmission to occur, all three of the following conditions must be met:

1- HIV must be present in one of the following five bodily fluids: blood, semen (including pre-ejaculate), vaginal fluids, breast milk, and rectal secretions.

2- The bodily fluid containing HIV must have direct access to the bloodstream. This can be through cuts, tears, rips, mucous membranes, open sores, or needles

3- Transmission occurs through a risky activity in which the first two conditions are met. Examples of high risk activities for HIV transmission are unprotected vaginal or anal sex, or sharing hypodermic needles for intravenous drug use. (1)

In the case of eating without washing your hands first, none of the above conditions exist. While you could argue that money might be tainted with unknown bodily fluids, no one has been identified as infected with HIV due to contact with an environmental surface. Additionally, HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host. (2)

Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, refer to a physician for other health related questions
