Sex with Female (possibly HIV positive)

Question:

Okay diving into the main part i had a unprotected sex with a girl...20 days ago.later i got so worried about hiv so i asked her if she had a past she told she always had protected sex and she told she had sex with a guy 4 days ago prior to me. I was told hiv transmission would be high in acute stage of infection. So my question if she was lying about the protected sex thing. Would she still transmit the virus at higher rate (because it has been just 4 days she might have got the virus) and she was so kind that she got herself tested (cmia methord which dignoses both ag and ab) on 19th day after she had sex with the other guy and result was negative i have done my dna proviral after 14 days of exposure and the result came negative .

Answer:

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about your risk of HIV acquisition (assuming your partner had recently acquired HIV).

It is essential to remember that although your partner may have previously been diligent in condom use, it is in your best interest to protect yourself and your partner with each sexual encounter. HIV incidence is significantly reduced with the use of condoms during all acts of penetrative vaginal sex, and diligent condom usage is considered one of the primary methods of protecting ones self from HIV transmission (1).

In the first few weeks after contracting HIV, viral load is usually extremely high. People with high viral loads are more infectious and can pass on HIV more easily (2). By this knowledge, if your partner had previously been exposed to HIV transmission (in the previous days/weeks), they would have an increased probability of transmitting the virus.

Recommendation: Official HIV testing guidelines still recommend re-testing at 12 weeks for completely conclusive results (3). Please refer to a Physician for further HIV testing for completely conclusive results at 12 weeks post exposure.
