I recieved an unprotected handjob from a prostitute 7 weeks ago. I have not had any symptoms, but a week ago i began to have a rash which looks like pityriasis rosea. I had taken a metronidazale medication and i researched that it might be a cause of this rash. Now i'm freaked out. am I seroconverting? Is it possible to get HIV from a handjob? I think there was a small cut on my penis when i recieved the handjob. Am at risk? Please help
Hi there, thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver helpline with your questions. We're happy to help!
I understand you're concerned about an experience you had, hopefully my answer will be able to clarify the situation and relieve your worries.
There is No Risk for HIV transmission through a handjob. Handjobs are considered non-penetrative masturbation and thus have no exchange of bodily fluids. Without any bodily fluid exchange, there is no opportunity for an HIV transmission to occur. Additionally, the cut on your penis would not provide a risk either, as a cut needs to be severe in order to increase HIV risk. A cut needs to be able to provide direct access to the bloodstream in order for an HIV infection to be established. To do this, it must be severe such as one that's gushing blood or requires immediate medical attention such as stitches. If this is not the case, there is no risk for HIV transmission.
Please check out this transmission equation as it may help to clarify the 3 components that are necessary for HIV transmission to even be possible.
|• blood (including menstrual)||• unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse||• vagina|
|• semen||• sharing needles||• anus|
|• pre-cum||• mother to child (in specific cases)||• urethra in the penis|
|• rectal secretions||• open cuts and sores (in theory)|
|• vaginal fluids||• other mucosal membranes|
|• breast milk||• points of needle injection|
Additionally, please check out avert.org for more information about how HIV is and isn't transmitted.
I hope this helped!
