Saliva, HIV Transmission?

Question:

my grandmother is 89 years old and while talking since my mouth was open and i have sore throat her spit directly hit my throat. am i know infected with hiv(aids) or not

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the possibility of acquiring HIV from saliva that came into contact with your throat. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be No Risk (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario).

The scenario mentioned above does not meet the three components of the transmission equation. HIV is not transmitted through saliva and casual contact with an HIV infected person is not a risky activity (1).

Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, refer to a physician for other health related questions.
