risk of hiv from open wound

Question:

HI, thanks for your website. It's very useful.
I'm have a question: i have a contact between skin and skin with my teacher. If i and my teacher have open wound and bleeding, hiv can be transmission ? and it is the high or low risk.
Many thank.
I hope see your answer soon.

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about whether it is possible to acquire HIV by making contact with your teacher's wound with your own open would. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be High Risk (evidence of transmission through these activities and is the majority of cases of transmission).

The scenario mentioned above does meet the three components of the transmission equation. Fluids that have direct access to the bloodstream provide a direct route for HIV transmission. However, you cannot acquire HIV by just making skin-to-skin contact with your teacher if no blood was exchanged through any open wounds.

Recommendation: Refer to Physician for HIV test.
