tetanus shot

Question:

i am from india, i had taken tetanus shot on local clinic but i am not sure that the syringe was used or unused bcz he did not open from packet on front of me. so i am feeling lots of anxiety and done lots of test from 3 to 10 monts all are negative. suggest me what should i do? is there any chance to spread hiv like that condition?

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about whether if needles are previously used is there a chance of contracting HIV. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be high risk (evidence of transmission through these activities and is the majority of cases of transmission), because there is direct access to the bloodstream, however, please keep in mind that it is standard of practice for healthcare professionals to use new/clean needles for every person and should not re-use needles. Furthermore, to answer your second concern. Research has shown most people develop detectable antibodies in 21-25 days, so a 10-month post exposure test would be considered conclusive. If you are still having anxieties, we would recommend seeing your physician for more information.
