Hi! I recently peed on a public restroom. I squatted and peed. I didn’t touch the seat nor any part of my body touched the seat. As I finished peeing I saw there were some droplets of blood on the seat and I’m worried if I can contract HIV from that considering if some of it backsplashed on my vagina. Please help. I’m really worried.
Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about whether HIV is transmittable from backsplash while using a public toilet, which had visible blood on the seat.
Hypothetically, if HIV positive blood had been sitting in toilet water and back-splashed onto your vagina, there would be No Risk (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario). HIV is extremely volatile when outside the body. When exposed to environmental surfaces (such as toilet water) HIV is quickly rendered inactive and undergoes a rapid reduction in concentration (1). Further, any risk involved in timing of HIV+ fluid in the water would be eliminated, or would be greatly diminished in comparison.
Recommendation: No need for HIV test with the scenario provided, refer to a physician for any other health related questions.
All the best,
