4th generation duo test

Question:

hello, i just want to know how encouraging a 4th generation duo test is after 3 weeks, i got tested on the 23 day, it was negative. also could u give me some more info about 4the generation combo test, antibodies and antigen
thank you

Answer:

Hello there and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver as your source of HIV/AIDS related information.

The 4th generation EIA test looks for both antigens (a protein called P24) and antibodies. P24 is detectable immediately after infection and only for the first couple of weeks. As P24 starts decreasing, the production of antibodies starts increasing. The antibody-portion of the test has a window period of 4-12 weeks. Most HIV specialists consider this test conclusive at 6-weeks, however, official HIV testing guidelines still recommend re-testing at 12 weeks for completely conclusive results.

That being said, receiving a negative result at 23 days (roughly 3 weeks) is a good indicator that your test at 12 weeks will be the same as long as you have not engaged in high risk activities since that time.

I strongly suggest you to re-test at or after the 3 month period for completely conclusive results.

Hopefully you find the information helpful. If you have any other questions and/or concerns, please feel free to call or email us.

Stay healthy and keep smiling
