Hi there and thank you for using the AIDS Vancouver online helpline as your resource for HIV/AIDS related questions.
Yes, the Chemiluminscent Microparticle Immuno Assay (CMIA) HIV test is also known as the DUO test or the 4th Generation test. It looks for both the antibodies and the P24 protein antigens. The P24 is detectable immediately after infection and only for the first couple of weeks following the exposure. Then, the antibody portion increases and has the standard window period of 4-12 weeks. Most HIV specialists consider this test conclusive at 6 weeks, however, official testing guidelines still recommend re-testing at 12 weeks for conclusive results.
Hopefully this answers your question, and if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email us.
