Honest truth

Question:

Is mutual masturbation truly safe even if some prec or semen got on my hand and then I touched myself right after? I just finished waiting for a three month test. I don't want to go through that stress again. Please reassure me! Thanks

Answer:

Hi there and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver Helpline as your source for HIV/AIDS related information.

I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing such emotional distress due to the last exposure. Here I will try my best to ease some of your concerns.

Mutual masturbation shares no risk of contracting HIV. That is because HIV transmission requires an internal pathway entering into your bloodstream without the existence of air. HIV is in fact a very weak virus – it cannot survive more than a few seconds once it is exposed to the air. Therefore, the pre-cum/ semen on your hand would have already been dead or inactivated before reaching into your bloodstream.

All HIV tests are conclusive at 3 months and no retest is necessary after that time mark. I hope you will get your result back soon and move on from the scenario. Meanwhile, please feel free to write us back at anytime so we can assist you further.
