I had sex with a sex worker with condom 85days ago... i got some sore throat pain and flu after 3 months from the sexual activity. And i go for a HIV blood test which is HIV 1 & 2 AG/AB (ELISA) test, it show me nonreactive... The 82days nonreactive HIV test it is safe enough?

Hi there, thanks for contacting us with your HIV related questions, we're happy to help!

You had the 4th generation test done, which is the best test out there! Specialists for HIV consider that test to be conclusive at just 6 weeks (42 days), however, here in Canada the guidelines haven't changed yet so it's still officially considered conclusive at 84 days. You had a negative test at 82 days, which is either considered by the specialists standard, or nearly conclusive in Canada! This result is extremely unlikely to change in those last two days, considering that tests are over 95% accurate at just 4 weeks. Additionally, your exposure was only low risk to begin with, so I wouldn't say that further testing is necessary.

I hope this helped, please visit our website or avert.org for further information.

Sincerely,

Christina
