Hi!, an 84 days test after PEP (and 114 days after exposure) is trustworthy?. Thanks!

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for your HIV/AIDS related health information. It seems you're concerned about the accuracy of a test you've had considering you've also completed a PEP regimen. We're happy to answer your question for you.

PEP regimens essentially extend the window periods of tests by the amount of time you take it. They are usually 1 month in duration, so extend window periods by 1 month. Since most tests have a 90 day (3 month) window period, this is extended to 120 days (or 4 months). Therefore the test you had is a very good indicator of your present status, but if you want to know your results conclusively you'll need to go for another test after at least 120 days post exposure.

Thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your question, we hope it has been answered fully.
