Hi there.
I am a circumcised male.I was having protected vaginal sex, after ejaculation I pulled out. Unfortunately the condom slipped. I could see some blood on my penis (dried blood, on the opposite of penis's head) where as about 98% area of the penis was dry including the head and the urethra. You can assume that starting from the head down 98% area was dry & clean. I have no cuts, soars, wounds in and around my gentlemen area. Where am I standing. Thanks in advance.

Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. From what I understand, it sounds like you are concerned about the condom slipping off or breaking and having found blood on your penis.

What I can tell you is that unprotected sex is a High Risk Activity, this means that studies have repeatedly found that activities in this category have been associated with HIV infection. Also, the urethra of the penis (the hole at the tip of your penis) is considered a direct access point for HIV to enter the bloodstream.

Without knowing more about the situation, I would recommend that you take an HIV test. A test is the only way to know for sure if you have HIV. You can go to your healthcare professional and request a test.

If you need help finding test sites in your area, you can refer to the websites below:

  • CDC.gov (US)

  • HIV 411 (Canada)

  • AIDS map (Outside Canada & US)

  • Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.
