Hello,

Thank you for contacting AIDS Vancouver for your HIV/AIDS related questions.

Intercourse with an unexpired, unbroken condom is the safest way to prevent HIV transmission. Thus, you are at a low risk for HIV transmission. Low risk means that there has been a few reports of transmission attributed to these activities.

The negative result you received after a month is a good indication of your status. Most HIV tests have a window period of about 4 weeks to 3 months after exposure. The symptoms you experience are not related to HIV. The volunteers at AIDS Vancouver are highly trained in HIV/AIDS information, however, we are not doctors so we encourage you to discuss this with your health care professional.

I trust that I have addressed your concerns. Should further inquiries arise, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Sewon, AIDS Vancouver Volunteer
