hello
my question is can someone have aids and the antibodies test be negative after the window period or after many years of exposure ?
i found case that someone is hiv infected and the antibody test was negative and he was not in window period
is that information reliable ?
can antibodies test be false negative after many years ?
even if this case is very rare to happen but is it possible to be infected with aids and the antibodies test be negative ?
i am so scared and confused please help

Hello and thank you for contacting Aids Vancouver Helpline. I will be glad to answer your questions for you.

After the window period, you would have antibodies against HIV, unless any of the following 4 cases apply to you:

1) You are on treatment for HepC


2) You are on chemotherapy treatment


3) You are on P.E.P. treatment for HIV


4) You have other immunodeficiency diseases

If the following 4 cases don't apply to someone, then they will produce antibodies against HIV before the window period. If you are still worried, you can go for an HIV test that detects the HIV antigen as well as antibodies (the 4th generation duo test).
