Hello,

I had an unprotected sexual encounter with my then boyfriend 8 weeks ago. I have taken the Oraquick oral test at 4, 6, and 8 weeks. All test came back negative. I am just so nervous and anxious that my 12 week test may return a positive result. Is this test a good indication of my status? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline regarding HIV/AIDS related information.

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on getting tested. The results of your tests are a good indication of your status thus far. We follow the WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines, which suggests testing is conclusive at the 12 week or 84 day mark. Taking the test at the 84 day mark will give you conclusive results.

I hope that helps you feel more calm.

I trust that I have addressed all of your concerns, should you need more assistance, feel free to contact us again.

In health,

Harman
