I had an exposure , due to a broken condom during the vaginal sex with CSW.
I had tested for HIV 4th generation / DUO test after 6 weeks & 10 weeks.
Both the results came as Negative (NonReactive) .

This is my only exposure.

How conclusive are my results?
Can they change between 10th week & 12th week?

Could you please help me with my anxiety.
thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the conclusiveness of the HIV 4th generation/DUO tests and whether there is a possibility for the HIV status to change between the 10th and 12th week following exposure to HIV during vaginal intercourse. From the information given, this scenario is determined to be High Risk (evidence of transmission through these activities and is the majority of cases of transmission).

The scenario mentioned above does meet the three components of the [transmission equation](https://www.aidswindsor.org/healthy-me/hiv-transmission/). It does satisfy the equation because of the potential for the sharing of bodily fluids following the breaking of the condom during vaginal intercourse.

For the fourth generation EIA, the antibody (ab) test has a window period of 4-12 weeks, which you have met. Most HIV specialists agree that 4th generation tests are conclusive at six weeks. As such, the results from the 6th and 10th week tests pertaining to your negative status are quite conclusive.

Results are unlikely to change to positive between the 10th and 12th week, however, official HIV guidelines still recommend re-testing in the 12th week in order to obtain completely conclusive results. Fourth Generation EIA tests have an accuracy of 99.9%, so it is worthwhile to reiterate that the results you have gained during the 6th and 10th week are quite conclusive in relation to your status [1].
