Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. I understand you're worried about your symptoms, and I will be glad to help.

First, I like to mention that it is unlikely that you have acquired HIV from this experience if you used proper protection, and the condom was intact. Also, we do not use any symptoms to diagnose or indicate an HIV status, since many symptoms that people experience could be due to other infections, and therefore using symptoms would be very inaccurate and stress-causing method. The only accurate way of knowing your HIV status is by testing. Now, your last test at about 2 months is over 95% accurate, meaning that it is a very strong indication that your HIV status is negative. We recommend that you get another test 3 months post-exposure, which would be over 99.9% accurate, and would be considered "conclusive".

Sincerely,

Ali
