Hello and thanks for reaching out to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

It seems that you are concerned about giving oral sex to a man that didn't ejaculate in your mouth while you have a bad gums.

For HIV to transmit to our body there must be body fluid, an activity, and direct access for the virus to enter our blood stream, these 3 factors must be present before you acquire HIV.

HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection

Your risk for HIV transmission from this encounter is considered a LOW risk, meaning there is a potential for HIV transmission due to an exchange of body fluids. I notice that you mention that you had bad gums, and that may have enabled a direct access for any HIV to enter the bloodstream. (Please be aware that HIV can be present in pre-cum as well as ejaculate.)

The only way to know your HIV status is through testing. Many tests are available for free depending on what area you in, and we would be happy to help you find a local testing centre if you would like to let us know where you are located.

Please congratulate yourself for being proactive with your sexual health and please feel free to contact us or visit our website [AIDSVancouver.org](http://www.aidsvancouver.org/) for more HIV information..

Best in Health!
