Hi there, and thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your HIV/AIDS related health information. You seem concerned about the possibility of HIV transmitting through a bite your received during oral sex. We're happy to answer that question for you.

This is actually considered no risk for a few reasons. Saliva that does not contain blood (as in the saliva of the person biting you) presents no potential for HIV transmission. In addition, saliva contains an enzyme that inhibits the ability of the virus to transmit. There is no risk of HIV transmitting, but generally in other situations washing the areas thought to be involved in transfer does not alter the risk level of the situation.

That said, there is the potential for other bacterial infections for occurring from bite wounds (including bites from other humans), so we'd recommend you go see a healthcare provider about this.

Thanks a lot for your question to the AIDS Vancouver Helpline, we hope this has answered your question fully.
