Hi there and thank you for reaching out to AIDS Vancouver with your questions.

It seems you are concerned that you might have contracted HIV from sucking boobs and engaging in protected sex. We're happy to provide some information.

Sucking breasts that are not lactating is a No-Risk activity for acquiring HIV. This means that there are recorded cases of people acquiring HIV in this way. The second factor to note in the activity is that when HIV comes into contact with saliva it is not transmittable. Therefore the activity of sucking boobs does not pose any risk to acquiring HIV.

Having protected vaginal intercourse is considered a Low-Risk activity for acquiring HIV. This means that there have been a few cases on record when HIV was acquired this way.

We do not use symptoms to determine an individual's HIV status. This is because HIV tends to mirror the symptoms of other viral infections. HIV testing is the only conclusive and definitive way to determine one's HIV status. If you have not been tested we encourage you to get tested. At Aids Vancouver we encourage people to use HIV testing as a regular health maintenance routine. This means getting tested once or twice a year. HIV testing is free and readily available in many areas. If you are in Canada you can use the [CATIE website](https://aso411.ca/) to locate testing sites close to you. If you are outside Canada you can use [Aids Map e-atlas](http://www.aidsmap.com/e-atlas) to locate HIV testing services in your area.

The Aids Vancouver Online Helpline has postings that are related to your questions that you can read for additional information. If you have further questions feel free to contact us again.
