Hello, and thank you for using AIDS Vancouver as your primary source of information about HIV/AIDS issues.

I would like to begin by telling you that receiving oral sex (blowjob) is considered a negligible risk for contracting HIV. In short, there has never been a confirmed report of HIV infection attributed to receiving a blowjob. In fact, HIV is a weak virus; it dies upon exposure to oxygen, and is inhibited by the enzymes in saliva.

I encourage you to see your physician about the symptoms you are experiencing. As far as Hepatitis is concerned, we do not specialise in that subject. However, all sexually active individuals are encouraged to be tested for all STIs, including HIV, at least once every year, as part of their health maintenance routine. Keep in mind that a test administered between 6 weeks and 12 weeks after a sexual experience will best indicate your status.

You may find this website helpful for more information about Hepatitis and other STIs.

I trust that I have answered your questions sufficiently. Should you have additional inquiries, please feel free to write back or visit our website http://www.aidsvancouver.org for more information.

Sincerely,
