I had protected sex with a CSW yesterday. I licked the CSW's pussy. Can I get HIV from that? What can I do in order to prevent that?

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for you HIV/AIDS related health information.

It sounds like you are concerned about your risk of HIV transmission from giving oral sex to a CSW (Commercial Sex Trade Worker).

First of all, Commercial Sex Trade Workers are no more likely than anyone else to be HIV positive. For this reason, on this forum we focus on the activities performed and not the individuals involved in the activities.

Giving Oral Sex is considered a Low Risk activity. This means that it presents a potential for HIV transmission because it involves an exchange of body fluids. There have been a few reports of infection attributed to these activities (usually under certain identifiable conditions). A good thing to remember, however, is that saliva has an enzyme that inhibits the transmission of HIV.

In the future you can use an Oral Barrier(Dam) to aid in safer oral sex. For more information about oral barriers ( what is it? how to use? effectiveness) click on the link below:
