Hello and thanks for contacting AIDS Vancouver with your question. It sounds like you are concerned about your risk of HIV transmission after having parts of your body shaved for a CAG test.

The situation that you described is a No Risk situation. This means to our knowledge, none of the practices in this category have ever been demonstrated to lead to HIV infection. Since you were in a hospital, I am assuming that the razor was indeed sterilized before use or was new. If you are in any way concerned with the practices of the individuals that performed your test, you can contact the hospital administration office for more information.

Why is your situation considered *No Risk?

* HIV is a human-to-human virus. HIV cannot be transmitted to you by an object.

* HIV needs a human host to survive. Once HIV is outside of the body and exposed to oxygen (on the blade or CAG machine) it is no longer transmissible.

I would encourage you to check out the following resources for more information about HIV:

  • Thanks for contacting AIDS Vancouver.
