I recently performed oral sex while i had a canker sore. Is it possible that i could get hiv if he ejaculated in my mouth? Thank you for all the work you do!

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from your question, you are asking about HIV transmission from ejaculate in the presence of canker sores in the mouth.

From the information given, this scenario is determined to be of Low Risk (evidence of transmission occurs through these activities when certain conditions are met).

Transmission is considered to be of Low Risk for the following reasons:

In general, performing oral sex without a barrier is considered to be a Low Risk activity for HIV transmission. HIV does not survive in saliva so if there was any HIV present in the other person's ejaculate, it would greatly affect its integrity (1). In addition, exposure to oxygen further decreases the concentration of HIV present rapidly (1). However, since this scenario does meet the components of our HIV Transmission Equation (see below), there is a risk that transmission could occur.
