I used nair for obvious reasons on my scrotum and pubic area. i got a bit of a chemical burn between my scrotom and inner thigh it wasnt bleeding just a pink scarp type cut. i had sex 11 hours after i burned myself. the guy i have sex with humped me in this area (no actual penetration) his penis was laying on top of it. i dont know if precum got on it or not. Am i at risk for HIV? I just got tested 3 days ago and it came back negative. should i go to the hospital?

Hi there, and thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline for your HIV/AIDS related health information. It seems you're concerned about the possibility of HIV transmitting during an encounter. We're happy to answer your question for you.

This is a no risk activity. To understand why, we encourage you to check out our transmission equation:
HIV TRANSMISSION EQUATION

BODY FLUID
+
ACTIVITY
+
DIRECT ACCESS TO BLOODSTREAM
---------- -------- ----------------------------
• blood (including menstrual) • unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse • vagina
• semen • sharing needles • anus
• pre-cum • mother to child (in specific cases) • urethra in the penis
• rectal secretions • open cuts and sores (in theory)
• vaginal fluids • other mucosal membranes
• breast milk • points of needle injection
You'll see that required for transfer are all of a fluid known to be involved in transfer, an activity known to be involved in transfer, and direct access to the bloodstream. A bit of a chemical burn does not provide direct access to the blood stream at all, so this is no risk. Also consider that his penis simply touching the area would not be described as an activity known to be involved in transfer.

Thanks a lot for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your question, we hope it has been answered fully.
