Gabriel
Hello Aids Vancouver,

I've been testing negative for year and a half after a arsh rub massage on parlour house. After a few days of that episode I developed symptoms that appear for several months... Mouth sours, joint pain, dizziness, headaches, rash on the chest, for more than one time arm pit lymph nodes, bla bla

I've made more than 20 hiv tests, 1 month, 2,3, 5,6,8,9,11,12,14 months after that episode. Most of them 4th Gen and some rapid test.

My doctor says that I'm OK but I'm having headaches, 2 months now, muscle aches, dizziness...

I'm lost on this.l, sometimes think on end myself

Do you think a PCR test is needed?
In terms of hiv? With all this tests negative can I assume with all certain that I'm negative?

Please answer to this post.

Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from your question, you are asking about the possibility of having HIV despite having multiple tests come back negative over the past year.

Fourth-generation HIV tests are very accurate and the chance of them detecting an HIV-positive individual is very high (sensitivity ~99.9%) (1). Similarly, the false-positive rate of these tests or in other words, the chance of falsely testing positive for HIV is also very low (specificity ~99.5%). Given the number of tests you have done in the past year, it would be safe to say that you do not have HIV assuming all the tests came back negative. The symptoms you are experiencing might be related to some other underlying health condition so I would recommend following up with a doctor if they persist or become intolerable.
