Hello and thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline. I am happy to answer your questions.

Firstly, you may be happy to learn that receiving oral sex is considered to hold a negligible risk of transmission. This means that in over 30 million cases of HIV worldwide, none have come from receiving oral sex.

In terms of your testing, you may consider your results conclusive. This is because HIV tests test both HIV 1 & 2, and are conclusive after 3 months post exposure. Your results will not change after 6 months unless you have one of the following criteria: taking antiviral treatment for Hepatitis C, taking treatment for cancer, taking PEP, or have another immunodeficiency disorder. If you do not fall into one of those categories, your test results remain conclusive at this time. No further test is required because the window period is the same for HIV 1 and 2.

With regards to your symptoms, we don't use symptoms to determine status here at AIDS Vancouver. This is because some people show them, others don't, and they often get confused with other illnesses like the flu. In your case I may suggest visiting a local healthcare professional if you're still feeling sick to get those symptoms checked out!

I hope I have answered your questions and provided you with enough information to move forward. If you have more questions please do not hesitate to contact us again or visit our website at http://www.aidsvancouver.org for more information.

Sincerely,

Caroline
