Hello and thank you for contacting AIDS Vancouver Helpline.

It sounds like you're worried and unsure whether you're at risk with HIV.
I want you to know that when risk factors are present (broken condom, or condom slipping or STI) there is a low risk of acquiring HIV.
We're glad you used a condom but since you're unsure whether it protected you during intercourse you may consider getting HIV test to be sure. The test after 3 months of exposure would be considered conclusive whether or not you've acquired HIV.

Here at AIDS Vancouver we consider the nature of the sexual activity to be the risk as opposed to the individual. An example of a no risk activity would be engaging in a protected vaginal intercourse with a commercial sex trade worker when the condom doesn't break and there are no STIs. You can go to our website at http://www.aidsvancouver.org for more information on no risk activities and on HIV testing (how long the window period is and where to get tested).

I hope I answered your question. Feel free to contact us again if you have further questions either by phone or you can email us at helpline@aidsvancouver.org
