Thank you very much for my last two questions answered by you. My another question is when did DNA qualitative test is used to diagnose ie if a person is recently infected or after completing the window period (chronic HIV). Is this test gives accurate results when a person is tested after 9 months of possible exposure. 2 ) if a person has AIDS still this test gives accurate results. Thanks again for a wonderful web site which is try to live people with confidence throughout the world

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Online Helpline with your HIV related questions and concerns. Hopefully this answer is able to help you!

1) All HIV tests are considered conclusive after 3 months, so yes, a test would be accurate 9 months after possible exposure.

2) Just to clarify, AIDS is the last stage of HIV progression. This means that if you acquire HIV and become HIV positive, and do NOT undergo treatment, then it may progress to AIDS. Therefore, someone who has AIDS, would test HIV positive.

check out our website, [aidsvancouver.org](aidsvancouver.org), for more information about HIV and AIDS!

Thanks for the great question!

Sincerely,

Christina
