Okay 3 months ago i stupidly had sex for the first time unprotected. I was fine until.i had a strange discharge after 3 weeks i went to the doctor i had a STD. And i got treated and tested for everything including HIV. I got sick like i threw up, a low fever and i lost my voice 3 days after sex. I got tested again after 11 weeks. Because i started to have swollen nodes on my neck and my tonsils were swollen for 3 weeks with bumps on my throat it doesn't hurt just every once in a while. My test was negative and everything started to go away. Someone said i should get tested again should i? Could i still have it?i took the test where they prick your finger i forgot what its called sorry. My ex told me he got tested as well to and was negative. I been freaking out but i have been calming down.

Hi there!
Thanks for contacting the AIDS Vancouver Helpline with your HIV related questions and concerns. We are happy to help!

In terms of your activity, having unprotected sex is considered a High Risk activity.

In regards to the symptoms you're experiencing, here at AIDS Vancouver we don't go by symptoms to classify HIV, as they are vague and often can mirror other viral infections like the flu. I would recommend continuing to partner with a health care practitioner regarding the symptoms and what may be causing them.

In terms of your testing, all HIV tests are considered conclusive at 12 weeks (84 days). Your test at 11 weeks is highly indicative of what your conclusive test will be, meaning the results are not likely to change. It may ease your mind to get retested at 12 weeks, just to be sure, although since up to 98% of cases are caught by 6 weeks, your results are probably not going to change.

Take a look at this website to see safe sex practices: [smartsexresource.com](smartsexresource.com)
as well as the BC CDC HIV Testing guidelines [HERE](http://www.bccdc.ca/NR/rdonlyres/B35EDEBD-98CA-48BB-AB7C-B18A357AC19D/0/BCHIVTestingGuidelinesMay2015.pdf)

Hopefully this helped!

Sincerely,

Christina
