Hello and thanks for your question about medications. Anti-anxiety medications, or other meds related to weight loss are not going to affect the outcome of HIV testing.

The window period for HIV testing is 4 weeks to 12 weeks. Although 4th generation tests (Combo or Duo ) are considered by some to be accurate at 6 weeks, official testing guidelines still recommend that testing be done at 12 weeks in order to have a conclusive result. I encourage you to get tested again at 12 weeks after exposure to know what your HIV status is.

If you have any other HIV related questions, please feel free to contact the Helpline again.

All the best,

Marnelle
