I just read on a medical website that HIV can survive in dried blood up to a week. Why do some say it dies right away? I have ocd and all of this information is overwhelming. Have there been studies that show HIV does infact die quickly when exposed to air and light?

Hi there and thanks for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as a source for HIV/AIDS related information.
There is so much information on line and a lot of it is either sensationalized, outdated or simply incorrect.  HIV is an extremely weak virus and dies once it is exposed to air; within 1-2 minutes.
I trust I have addressed your concern however, should further information be required, feel free to contact us again.
