Hello and thanks for contacting AIDS Vancouver with your question.

It seems you are concerned about contracting HIV after performing oral sex whilst you were bleeding in your gums. We are glad to provide some information.

When HIV is exposed to saliva it does not transmit. The reason is that saliva has some enzymes that react with HIV and remove the ability of HIV to transmit. The activity that you described, oral sex, is considered a Negligible Risk, meaning that although there are body fluids involved there has never been a confirmed report of HIV transmission this way.

The other issues is that you mentioned that you used two condoms. This is not recommended. If fact it actually increases the risk of the condom tearing because the two condoms increase the friction. Having vaginal sex using a condom is regarded a Low Risk activity meaning that there have been a few reports of HIV infection from this activity. We encourage you to get tested for HIV.

If you are in Canada you can use [CATIE](http://www.avert.org/hiv-testing) to locate a testing site close to you. If you are outside Canada you can use [Aids Map e-atlas](https://aso411.ca/) to locate testing sites in your region. Our Helpline Online forum will have postings related to your question that you can read for additional information. If you have further questions feel free to contact us again.
