If my partner ejaculated on the front of my pelvis/hip in the shower after I performed oral (hand only), if some of the semen was washed over my vaginal opening or I washed it in that direction with the shower head/my hand when washing afterwards, does that constitute a risk?

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. From what we gather from the question, you were asking about the possibility of HIV transmission from semen washing over your vagina in the shower.

From the information given, this scenario is determined to be No Risk: (transmission of HIV is not possible in the given scenario). This scenario does not satisfy our [Transmission Equation](https://www.aidswindsor.org/healthy-me/hiv-transmission/). It does not satisfy the equation because there is no access to the bloodstream. HIV transmission requires a combination of HIV positive bodily fluids (semen, vaginal fluid, rectal secretions) with a high risk act, and direct access to the bloodstream.

Recommendation: There is no need for an HIV test with the scenario provided, please refer to a physician for other health related questions.

All the best,

AIDS Vancouver Online/Helpline, Cody
